Browser DLP Features

Enterprise-grade data protection without enterprise complexity:

No Agent Installation

Install the Chrome Extension and start protecting data immediately. No IT deployment required.

267+ Entity Types

Automatically detect names, emails, SSNs, credit cards, IBANs, and 267+ other PII types.

File Anonymization

Anonymize .txt, .md, .csv, .json, .xml, .yaml, .log files before uploading (max 50KB).

Reversible Encryption

De-anonymize responses to restore original values. Unlike permanent redaction, nothing is lost.

48 Languages

Multi-language PII detection including RTL languages (Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Urdu).

Works Everywhere

Chrome and Edge browsers supported. Works on any website where you type sensitive data.

Supported AI Platforms

The extension automatically activates on these AI chat platforms:

ChatGPT
chatgpt.com
Claude.ai
claude.ai
Google Gemini
gemini.google.com
Microsoft Copilot
copilot.microsoft.com
DeepSeek
chat.deepseek.com
Perplexity
perplexity.ai
Abacus.ai
apps.abacus.ai

How Browser DLP Works

1. Detect

As you type or paste, the extension scans for 267+ PII types using regex + NLP detection.

2. Anonymize

Click "Anonymize" to replace PII with tokens. The AI only sees anonymized data.

3. De-anonymize

AI responds with tokenized data. The extension restores original values automatically.

Supported File Formats

Anonymize files before uploading to AI tools:

.txt
.md
.csv
.json
.xml
.yaml
.log

Maximum file size: 50KB. For larger files, use the Desktop App.

Where browser DLP has real limitations

The 267+ entity-type, regex-plus-NLP detection approach has inherent recall limitations for PII formats outside its defined taxonomy or language coverage. Browser support is also a genuine limitation today — the extension currently works in Chrome and Edge only, with no stated Firefox or Safari support, so teams standardized on another browser aren't covered yet.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is browser DLP?

Browser DLP (Data Loss Prevention) protects sensitive data directly in the browser without requiring agent installation on endpoints. It detects and prevents data leaks as users interact with web applications, AI chatbots, and online forms.

How is this different from enterprise DLP?

Traditional enterprise DLP requires agent installation on every device, complex policy configuration, and IT deployment. Browser DLP via Chrome Extension works instantly — install and start protecting data in minutes, not months.

Which browsers are supported?

The Chrome Extension works in Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers. Both use the same Chromium engine, so the extension is fully compatible with both.

Does the extension see all my browsing?

No. The extension only activates on supported AI chat sites (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, DeepSeek, Perplexity, Abacus.ai). It does not monitor other websites or send any data to our servers without your explicit action.

What file formats can be anonymized?

The extension supports .txt, .md, .csv, .json, .xml, .yaml, and .log files up to 50KB. For larger files or document formats like .docx, use the Desktop App or Office Add-in.

Which DLP tools work with browser-based AI apps like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini?

Traditional endpoint DLP rarely inspects what you type into a web app, so prompts usually pass unchecked. A browser-based tool sees the text at the point of entry instead. The anonym.legal Chrome Extension activates on ChatGPT, Claude, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, DeepSeek, Perplexity, and Abacus.ai, and anonymizes sensitive values before the prompt is sent.

How can DLP detect and block sensitive data pasted into ChatGPT or Claude prompts?

Detection has to happen in the browser, before the request leaves the page. As you type or paste, the extension scans the prompt for 267+ PII types using combined regex and NLP detection, then replaces each match with a token so the AI only ever receives anonymized text. Because the mapping is reversible, the response is automatically restored to the original values for you.

Is browser DLP a separate product?

It can be either. Browser DLP is a distinct deployment model rather than a distinct product category — it protects data at the point of entry in the browser, which endpoint and network DLP largely miss for AI chat. anonym.legal ships it as a Chrome Extension you can run standalone, or alongside an existing enterprise DLP stack to close the AI-prompt gap without touching that deployment.

About this page

We update this page when our platform or the law changes.

Read our founder note for how we work.

Each change shows up in the timestamp at the top.

We follow these rules

  • GDPR (EU 2016/679).
  • ISO/IEC 27001:2022.
  • NIS2 (EU 2022/2555).
  • HIPAA safe harbor under 45 CFR § 164.514(b)(2).

Our promise

We do not sell your data.

We do not train models on your text.

We store your files in Germany.

You can delete your account at any time.

You own your work.

Where we run

Our company HQ is in Saarbrücken, Germany. Our servers run in Hetzner's Falkenstein datacenter.

Hetzner holds ISO 27001 certification.

All data stays in the EU.

Backups run every day.

Email support@anonym.legal.

We reply within one business day.

How we test

We run a full check suite on every release.

Each surface gets its own sweep script and report.

Human reviewers spot-check the output each week.

We track recall and precision on a labelled set.

Bad runs block the deploy.

What we never do

  • We never sell your information to third parties.
  • We never train models on what you upload.
  • We never keep your work after you delete it.
  • We never share keys with any outside firm.
  • We never run ads inside the product.

Plans in plain words

We sell credits, not seats.

One credit covers one short job.

Long jobs use a few credits each.

You can top up at any time.

Unused credits roll over each month.

Read the plans page for current rates.

Who built this

A small team of engineers and lawyers built this.

We ship from Europe and work in the open.

Our founder note spells out why we started.

Where to start

How the parts fit

A browser add-on cleans text inside Chrome.

A Word plug-in handles drafts in Office.

A small desktop tool works on whole folders.

An agent protocol link feeds large models safely.

All four share one core engine and one rule set.

Words from our team

We started this work after a lunch about cookies.

One friend kept getting odd ads on her phone.

We asked why a court file leaked through a draft.

We sketched the first build on a napkin that week.

By month three we had a tiny demo for a friend.

She used it on her first case the next day.

Common questions we hear

Can the tool read scanned PDFs? Yes, with OCR.

Does it work on long files? Yes, in small chunks.

Can I roll my own rule set? Yes, save it as a preset.

Does it run offline? The desktop build runs offline.

Do you keep my files? No, the cloud build wipes after each run.

Will it learn from my work? No, we never train on inputs.

A short tour of the workflow

Upload a file or paste a snippet of prose.

Pick the entities you want gone from the draft.

Choose a method: replace, mask, hash, encrypt, or redact.

Press run and watch the side panel show each hit.

Skim the result and tweak any rule that misfired.

Save the cleaned file or send it to a teammate.
